Alyssa has been now home for 30 days. WOW how time has flown by for us all. Its truly been a joy to have her home and enjoy seeing her grow before our eyes. She does what a typical newborn would do, sleep, poop and eat. Its been an an interesting situation having a preemie also. I've had several people ask me"how old is she"; well that's an interesting question. Alyssa's really only 2 weeks old developmentally but she really is 2 1/2 month's old. We have to continue to view her as being born on her true due date(4/16) instead of her real birth date. Its very confusing to say the least but Alyssa will catch up after a year or so and this will all be in her past.
We visited the cardiologist yesterday and found out Alyssa's still has VSD (ventricular septal defect) which is basically a hole in her heart. Her cardiologist said her heart looks great and he believes it will close on its own as she continues to grow. I was hoping it would be closed by now but he explained it takes more than 1 month for it to close. He said she shows all the signs her heart is strong, eating well, gaining weight, lungs healthy and x-ray was normal. Speaking of weight, Alyssa now weighs 6 lbs 3 ounces, she gained 1 pound in 2 weeks. Alyssa will visit her pediatrician on Friday for her first round of newborn shots. Giving God all the glory for bringing our baby girl to this point and beyond. God has been by our side to comfort us and I am truly grateful and in awwwwwww.
